Now that hurricane season is upon us, here’s a special website to help in so many ways. It’s Ready.gov. It is a great reference for people of all ages—it gives information about preparations for emergencies, and of particular interest to me are the preparations for hurricanes.

Build a kit

The kids’ section has games to learn to how to stay safe during a disaster, how to build a disaster kit, as well as a card game called Ready2Help, which can be either downloaded or ordered for free! Please take a few minutes to look at the valuable information there: https://www.ready.gov/kids/games

There is also an activity book with Pedro the Penguin that has special tips for hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and extreme heat as well as other natural events. https://www.ready.gov/sites/default/files/2019-06/prepare_with_pedro_activity_book_eng.pdf.

Helping children cope after a disaster is an important role that each of us has, be we a parent, grandparent, family member, teacher, or friend of a child. On this page, https://www.ready.gov/helping-children-cope,are suggestions and tools to help children during this time.

These are just a few of the resources available on Ready.gov. I hope this will be of help to you and yours. Do stay safe in the weeks and months ahead during hurricane season.

Faithfully yours,
